Brief Introduction to the places of interest inHenan:

Longmen Grottoes:TheLongmen Grottoes, located twelve kilometers from the south ofLuoyang, is one of the three biggest grottoes inChina. There is a Yi River, withXiangMountainon one side andLongmenMountainon the other. During the four hundred years from theNorthern Wei Dynasty to the late Tang Dynasty, hundreds of ancient skillful craftsman built temples andgrottoes on these two mountains, creating a famed mine of carving art . The Longmen Grottoes is as long as one kilometer, with more than 97000 images of Buddha, 1300 caves and 3600 carvings.

ShaolinTemple:TheShaolinTempleis locatedin the region ofSongMountain,Dengfeng,HenanProvince. It was built intheNorthern Wei Dynasty (459), andBodhidharma, the legendary Indian monk, came here 32 years later. After that,ShaolinTempleenlarged and the number of monks increased gradually, earning a great fame at home and abroad. Damo is regarded as the primogenitor of Chinese ZenBuddhism, andShaolinTemplethecradle of Zen.ShaolinTempleembraces many exciting attractions, such as theDharmaCave, the Hall of Heavenly Kings (Tianwangdian), the Mahavira Hall (Daxiongbaodian), the Qianfodian, the Baiyidian and excellent Martial Art shows.

GreatXiangguoTemple:TheGreatXiangguoTempleis located in the west ofZiyou Road,Kaifeng. Being the former residence of Lord Xinling intheKingdomofWeiduring the Warring States Period, it is one of the famous historic temples. It was firstly built in 555AD, and rebuilt in 711AD. The next year it was given the name “GreatXiangguoTemple” by the Emperor Reizong in memory of his ascending to the throne. During the Tang and Song Dynasty, it had a large scope and the middle hall alone could hold as many as 10000 people. With the weight of about 5000 kilos, the bell in the temple can sound enormous loudly. “The Sound of theBellinGreatXiangguoTemple” is one of the famousattractions inKaifeng.

YuntaiMountain:TheYuntaiMountain, located inXiuwuCounty,Jiaozuo, is one of the National AAAA Level Scenic Spots. Because of it steep topography and abundant fog and cloud, it is named “YuntaiMountain”. Including Laotan Gully, the total acreage of it is 190 square kilometers. Being famous for its mountain and water, every spot here is astonishing. The Great Waterfall is about 314 meters in gap and can be listed to the top inChina.

WhiteHorseTemple:The White Horse Templeis located12 kmaway fromLuoyangCity. Established by the Han Dynasty in 68 AD when Buddhism started to spread, this temple is believed to be the first Buddhist temple built by the government inChina.It is regarded as the “originating court” and the “cradle of Chinese Buddhism” by the Buddhist disciples. There are numbers of cultural relics in the temple.

Chenjiagou:Chenjiagou inWenCounty,HenanProvinceis the cradle of shadowboxing. Like the name of shadowboxing, Chenjiagou is an ideal place for people to visit and learn Kongfu here. Shadowboxing brings energy and fame there, making the unknown village lively and famous. To visit Chenjiagou is very popular with the people who learn martial arts. The people who have ever been to Chenjiagou will never forget the people, the culture, and the scenes there.

LongtingPark:TheLongtingParkis located in the northwest ofKaifeng, and was built on the site of seven dynasties (Wei in the Warring States Period, Later Liang,Later Jin, Later Han, and Later Zhou during the Five Dynasties Period, Northern Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty). With the splendidLongting Hall as its main building,it is composed of a series of other buildings, such as the Wu Gate,YudaiBridge, Gaohu, Chao Gate, Zhaobi, Chao Room, etc. TheLongtingParkfully presents the majesty ofRoyalPark. Its centuries-old history and resplendent culture make the people reckon it “the symbol of ancient capital” and “the pride ofKaifeng”.

Tombsof Song Dynasty:Tombsof Song Dynasty refer to the tombs ofemperors inNorthern Song Dynasty (960AD—1127AD). The tombs lie inGongyi,HenanProvince. With the tombs of the emperors’, theQueens’ and the high ranking officials’, the total number reaches as many as more than 300. TheseTombs is the largest royal ones inCentral China. More than 700 carvings are reserved, taking on great cultural and artistic significance.

ZhongyueTemple:TheZhongyueTemplelies in theGaolongVillage,YanshiCounty. Compared with theZhongyueTempleinDengfeng, theTemplehere is called “ZhongyuexiaTemple”. And because of the name of the village, it is also called the “GaolongGreatTemple”. TheTempleis conserved well, and contains abundant exquisite carvings and paintings in it.

Brief Introduction toKaifeng:

Kaifeng, calledDongjingin ancient times, is located in the northeast ofHenanProvince. Lying on the southern bank of Yellow River—the cradle of Chinese history and culture,Kaifengis a famous historic and cultural city. It can be calledBianfor short, and is listedone of the Seven Ancient Capitals of China and one of the twenty-four historic cities publicized by State Government.With a history of more than 2700 years,Kaifenghas ever been namedDaliang,Bianliang,Dongjing,Bianjing, etc.The Kingdom of Wei during the Warring States Period,Later Liang,Later Jin, Later Han, and Later Zhou during the Five Dynasties Period, Northern Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty have made their capitals there, so it is endowed the name of “Capital of Seven Dynasties”.Kaifeng, together withXi’an,Luoyang,Beijing,Nanjing,Hangzhou,Anyang, forms the “Seven Ancient Capitals of China” which are famous at home and abroad. Brief Introduction toHenan University：

HenanUniversityis located inKaifeng, a famous historic city and the capital of 7 dynasties in Chinese history. It was founded in 1912 and was originally named The Preparatory School for Further Study in Europe andAmerica. In October of 2008, the People's Government of Henan Province and the Ministry of Education signed an agreement on constructingHenanUniversitywith joint effort. ThusHenanUniversitybecame one of the universities supervised by both the Province and the Ministry. At present,HenanUniversityis a comprehensive university with 11 branches of learning: liberal arts, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, science, engineering, medicine, agriculture and education. Now there are more than 41,000 students who receive full-time education here.
